Another week of lockdown draws to a close, or as we like to look on it at Ennis Chamber, we are a week closer to the return of normality, albeit a new kind of normality.

Meeting with Minister Humphreys

Yesterday (Thursday April 16), Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, hosted a meeting of CEO’s representing Chambers throughout Ireland, including Ennis Chamber.  The Minister spoke to each of us individually and listened intently to what we identified as key issues.

As CEO representing Ennis Chamber, I had the opportunity to communicate the fear local business owners have around taking on additional debt and like my Chamber colleagues, urged the Minister to consider a substantial cash stimulus package for all affected businesses to help kick-start the economy.  Among the other issues raised on behalf of our members is the need for a roadmap to explain how businesses will exit the current situation.

Minister Humhreys was hugely attentive and positive, and gave very generously of her time, with the meeting lasting just shy of two hours.

As a member of her local Chamber, Minister Humphreys appreciates that the Chambers Network is embedded in local communities throughout Ireland and as such provides an excellent forum through which her  Department can stay in touch with real issues on the ground, across all sectors.
