Consultation on the second SDG National Implementation Plan from Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications is open for submissions until September 10, 2021.
The 2030 Agenda encourages countries to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into planning and policy, on both a national and international level. As a whole-of-government initiative overseen by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, each Minister has responsibility for implementing individual SDG targets related to their functions.
Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications is now in the process of developing the Second SDG National Implementation Plan which will set out arrangements for interdepartmental coordination, stakeholder engagement and actions needed for further SDG Implementation from 2021 to 2023.
While the National Implementation Plan itself will not include policy actions, it will aim to support and promote policies across government which contribute towards meeting the Goals and identify opportunities for enhancing policy coherence.
A fundamental feature when developing the National Implementation Plan is listening to and integrating the voice of stakeholders. This approach is reflective of the fact that the SDGs belong to everybody and that governments will need to work in partnership with society to achieve the Goals.
This online consultation aims to:
Assess the awareness of, and engagement with, the Sustainable Development Goals
Establish general opinion on progress made to date
Seek feedback and recommendations to inform the drafting and development of the next National Implementation Plan
The consultation also includes an optional, sector-specific section for those responding on behalf of a group or organisation to help us determine what support requirements might be needed in different sectors.
You are invited to be part of this consultation and to share your views on how we can continue to build on progress and achieve the 17 SDGs by 2030.
This consultation is open until 17.30 September 10, 2021 and submissions can be made online through our consultation platform.
If you have difficulties submitting a response online, or would like to make a submission by post, email or through Irish please email : SDGs@DECC.gov.ie
