PRESS STATEMENT – Ennis Chamber calls on Minister and IDA to intervene for Roche divestment
Ennis Chamber is calling on the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation as well as the IDA to intervene in the proposed exit of Roche from their site in Clarecastle. Such a move would have a devastating impact on County Clare with 240 people directly employed as well as the hundreds of people who are employed as contractors and who are local suppliers to the facility. Ennis Chamber estimate that a closure of this magnitude and loss of jobs would result in a loss of €20 million per year to the Clare economy.

Speaking about the announcement, Ennis Chamber President Pat Morris said “Our thoughts are with the employees, contractors, suppliers and their families this morning. It is vital that immediate action is taken by the Minister and the IDA to firstly seek to reverse the decision by Roche headquarters while proactively looking at other options for divestment to others of the site at Clarecastle.”
The Ennis Chamber Industry Action Group has recently sought a meeting with the IDA to discuss foreign direct investment in Ennis and its Environs. Ennis has not been their strong focus in recent years and we would urge the immediate appointment to the vacant Mid-West Regional Manager post. It is now urgent that a successful outcome to the Roche situation becomes the top priority with the IDA at all levels of Government.
