Potential Flooding

Clare County Council has been engaged along with the other emergency services in managing a severe weather event throughout the county in the recent week.  In relation to Ennis, the new flood defenses have held up well and the scheme installed at the Gort Road Business Park has worked, as planned, to date.

Ennis is continuing to operate business as normal currently.  However, there is adverse weather forecast for the coming weekend which could involve up to 70 mm of rain.  This is combined with predicted high tides.  Clare County Council is operating on the basis that there will be a significant fall of rain in the county over this weekend.

The advice to businesses and householders who may have previously experienced flooding is to operate on the basis of a very high level of alert. We are approaching levels experienced in November 2009 and weather patterns in the coming week will determine whether or not those levels are exceeded.

Clare County Council’s crisis management arrangements are in place and, as on last weekend, will be implemented as necessary.  Therefore the message to businesses from Clare County Council is to be prepared for all eventualities.
